Smarter Lookalikes: Finding Audiences Ready to Buy

Broad targeting burns cash. The platforms will happily spend your budget on people who look interested but never buy — unless you teach them exactly who a buyer is first.

Seed with buyers, not browsers

The classic mistake is building lookalikes from all website visitors. Visitors include job seekers, accidental clicks and curious students. Build your seed list from people who paid, booked a call or reached the final step of your funnel — even if that list is small. A hundred true buyers beats ten thousand passers-by.

Layer behaviour over demographics

Age and location tell you who people are; behaviour tells you what they'll do next. The signals that predict buying are surprisingly specific: recency of a pricing-page visit, a second session within three days, a particular search phrase. Find your three strongest signals in your own data, then require them on top of every audience you run.

The takeaway

Narrow seeds, behavioural layers, weekly pruning. Precision audiences cost more per click and far less per customer.
